ಶಂಕರಪುರ ಗ್ರಾಮವು ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕಟ್ಟಕಡೆಯ ಗ್ರಾಮವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ 120 ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಕೊಪ್ಪವು ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕು ಕೇಂದ್ರವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ 23 ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ತೀರ್ಥಹಳ್ಳಿ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ಗಡಿ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಶಾನುವಳ್ಳಿ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಪಂಚಾಯಿತಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಇದು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಗ್ರಾಮವಾಗಿದ್ದು 19 ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳಿವೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ದಟ್ಟ ಅರಣ್ಯವಿದೆ.
ಈ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ವಾಸಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕೃಷಿಯು ಉದ್ಯೋಗವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಕೆಲವರು ಕೃಷಿ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಜರಾಯಿ ಇಲಾಖೆಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನಗಣಪತಿ, ಶ್ರೀ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀವೆಂಕಟರಮಣ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀ ಜಟಿಗೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳಿವೆ.
ಇಲ್ಲಿ 400 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಇತಿಹಾಸವಿರುವ ಗ್ರಾಮ ದೇವತೆಯಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಭವಾನಿಶಂಕರ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಇದ್ದು ಸುಮಾರು 200 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಶಿಥಿಲವಾಗಿರುವ ವಿಷಯ ಬೆಳಕಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದರ ಕುರುಹಾಗಿ ನೆಲಗಟ್ಟು ಮಾತ್ರ ಉಳಿದಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಮತ್ತು ಅಂಗಪ್ರತ್ಯಂಗ ಪರಿವಾರ ದೇವತೆಗಳಾದ ಗಣಪತಿ, ಭವಾನಿ ಅಮ್ಮನವರು,ರಕ್ತೇಶ್ವರಿ ನಂದಿ, ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಪಾಲ ದೇವತೆಗಳೂ ಇದ್ದುದಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿದುಬಂದಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈಗ ರಕ್ತೇಶ್ವರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಪಾಲ ದೇವತೆಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ಇದ್ದು ಹಿಂದೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿವರಾತ್ರಿ ಮತ್ತು ರಥೋತ್ಸವ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದುದಾಗಿಯೂ ತಿಳಿದುಬಂದಿರುತ್ತದೆ.
ಈಗ ಶಂಕರಪುರದ ಗ್ರಾಮಸ್ಥರು ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಗತ ವೈಭವವನ್ನು ಮರಳಿ ತರಲು ಭಕ್ತಾದಿಗಳು, ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು, ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಇಲಾಖೆಗಳು, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳ ಸಹಾಯದಿಂದ ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ಜೀರ್ಣೋದ್ಧಾರ ಮಾಡಿ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾಪಿಸಲು ಸಂಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಪ್ರವೃತ್ತರಾಗಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ.
Shankarapura is a Village situated in Chikkamagaluru District about 120 kilometres from Chikkamagaluru with Koppa as Taluk Headquarter a distance of 23 Kilometres in the boarder of Tirthahalli Taluk of Shimoga District. This small Village with 19 Families surrounded by thick forests is belonged to Shanuvalli Grama Panchayath.
Agriculture is the main occupation of the villagers and few peoples are agriculture labourers. Here three temples of Lord sri Prasannaganamati, Lakshmivenkataramana and Jatigeshwara are there belonging to Mujarai Department.
Recently it has come to notice that in this village there was a Temple of Lord Bhavanishankara which has a history of 400 years and ruined completely 200 years ago. There was also co-Gods of Lard Ganapathi, Kshetrapala, Nandi and Godess Sri Bhavani and Raktheshwari. Now Kshetrapala and Raktheshwari are present. It is stated to have Car Festivalss and Shivarathri special rutual ceremonies were also going on every year.
Now the villagers of Shankarapura with the help of Devotees, Publics, Ritual places, Government Departments, decided to reconstruct Sri Bhavanishankara Temple from scratch to bring the glory back to the Village and work is under progress.
